The Cottage

House Manual & Guidebook

Welcome to
the Cottage!

We are so happy to have you stay at the Cottage. If you have any concerns or need help with recommendations don’t hesitate to contact me.

A few small things:

You will have complete privacy here, but once in a blue moon lovely Rosa, who cleans, will come by the laundry room downstairs. In the summer the grass is mowed once a week. It’s noisy but they are super fast! Finally, garbage is picked up a couple of times a week.

The property is all yours to walk. You can see the trail starting straight ahead facing the mountains. It goes down to a beautiful spot with views of the river. Please feel free to roam as you like!

It is hard as a host to know exactly what’s missing so if you have any suggestions of what would improve your stay, I would LOVE to know about it.

Enjoy!

Living Room Gas Fireplace

Quick Use Tips

To turn ON - turn the control knob to number 4

To turn OFF - turn the control knob to number 1

General Use Information

When you are done with your fire, please leave the temperature set in the number 1 position.

The control knob is behind the horizontal door panel on the bottom front of the unit.

Please note, we leave the pilot light ON during the winter months. It is a small flame, visible through the glass. You might smell a slight gas smell, this is not a leak.

As this is a propane gas unit, opening the protective glass panel while the unit is on can cause a major safety issue. DO NOT OPEN.

Fireplace Troubleshooting

Pilot Light Off - If for any reason the pilot light is off, you may relight it. To relight the pilot:

Put the knob in the Pilot position.

Push and hold down the Pilot knob.

Push and hold the electronic light button until it lights.

After it lights, hold the pilot knob down for another 20 seconds.

Turn the temperature control knob to 4 and enjoy!

For more detailed information please see the owner’s manual, in the compartment below the firebox.

BBQ, Fire Pit & S’Mores

The Outdoor Grill

The propane grill is on the patio next to the deck. Please do not leave the grill unattended while operating!

To light:

Turn the valve on the propane tank until fully open and open the grill lid.

To light the main burner (leftmost control knob), push and turn the control knob to the red zone while, at the same time, press and hold the electronic ignition button to light the burner. Once the burner is lit, release the electronic ignition button and knob. If the burner does not light, wait 5 minutes for any excess gas to dissipate and then retry. Once lit, adjust the flame as desired.

Light the other burners the same way from left to right.

Troubleshooting:

If the burner will not light after several attempts, then the burner can be lit with a match. Matches can be found in the shed with brick steps attached to the cottage, to the right of the front door.

1. Please allow 5 minutes for any accumulated gas to dissipate.

2. Clip a match on one end of the lighting rod, hanging from a long chain to the right side of the grill by the propane tank.

3. Light match.

4. Hold lighting rod and insert lighted match right next to the burner ports or ceramic file.

5. Push and turn the designated control knob to the red zone.

6. Burner should ignite immediately

Please fully close the tank valve when done using the grill and replace the grill cover!

Outdoor Fire Pit

Location - The fire pit is located north of the Cottage. Walk out the big glass doors, down the deck stairs and across the lawn to the fire pit.

Materials - Logs, matches, and a pouch of fire starter are located in the shed with brick steps attached to the cottage, to the right of the front door. Additional wood is piled near the fire pit.

Directions - Put logs in the fire pit, pour fire starter over the highest log and light the fire.

S’mores - For your enjoyment, there are ingredients for making smores in the living room closet.

Guidelines - Do not leave the fire unattended. Make sure the fire is out before you leave the area.

Indoor S’mores Maker

No need to build a big fire just to enjoy some s’mores! In the glass door closet in the living room you will find everything you need, including a small black device called a Colson Fire Pit.

To use:

Take off the lid and remove any absorbent material inside.

Fill up to 1” from the top with the alcohol fuel provided. CAUTION! Clean up any spilled alcohol around the unit before lighting.

Using the long handled lighter provided, ignite the alcohol inside the fire pit.

Enjoy your s’mores!

To extinguish, place the silver lid completely over the unit. Please remove all excess alcohol from the unit before putting the unit away.

…and finally

Bedroom TV

The television in the bedroom is a Roku Smart TV. You will need to log into your own streaming accounts (Netflix, Disney+, etc.) to watch. The manual is located in the glass door closet in the living room if you need instructions.

Dog Guests

If you’ve brought a furry friend along for your stay we just ask that you be mindful of the following:

Dogs cannot be left alone at the property inside, outside or in vehicles.

Dogs may not sleep on the bed or on the furniture.

Please clean dirty paws before entering the space. A towel will be left in the bathroom for your use.

Please be mindful of shedding throughout the space.

Other House Notes

A Fire Extinguisher is located on the floor next to the stove in the kitchen.

A First Aid Kit can be found in the bathroom.

A bluetooth speaker can be found in the living room glass door closet.

Please do not put any wipes or other hygiene products in the toilet. They will clog the system.

This is a non-smoking household. SMOKING IS NOT PERMITTED INDOORS. You may smoke outdoors.

Garbage and recycling are commingled in our town: separation happens at the waste treatment facility. Please dispose of everything in the one bin provided under the sink.

Third-party Visitors

Your privacy is very important to us, but please be aware that occasionally our lovely cleaner Rosa needs to access the laundry room downstairs (separate entrance). On rare occasions we (me, my husband or somebody working for us) may also need to come by the blue barn next-door. And of course we do have the garbage pick up guys!

Before you leave

Please,

Put all garbage bags in the bins located in the shed with brick steps attached to the cottage, to the right of the front door.

Ensure the doors and windows are closed.

Make sure all the lights are turned off.

Wash all dishes and return them to their original places.

Leave beds unmade.

Log out of any streaming apps you’ve used on the TV.

Turn off the AC in the summer.

Do NOT turn off the heat in the winter!

Enjoy your stay!

I have 3 more properties in addition to this one! :)
